Although oral health has improved significantly over the past 30 years, there is still a great deal of research that suggests that Americans can do more to prevent losing their teeth prematurely.

Studies have shown that 80% of all people in the United States have early signs of periodontal disease. Left untreated, periodontal disease will lead to recessed gums, bone loss in the jaw and eventually tooth loss.  (Periodontal disease has also been linked to more serious systemic diseases including heart disease and diabetes.)

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC)’s recent comprehensive study on oral health in the U.S. (2011), one-fourth of U.S. adults aged 65 or older have lost all of their teeth.  In most cases, preventative treatment could have been used to help retain teeth by addressing bone or gum loss at an earlier stage.

The Pennsylvania Center for Dental Implants and Periodontics is highly experienced in a full range of reconstructive surgical procedures that can address bone degeneration (bone atrophy) and gum recession to help retain your natural teeth, as well as important preparation for dental implant placement once tooth loss has occurred.  The Center has a Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) scanner which exposes our patients to less radiation and improved image quality providing our doctors with the most advanced technology for optimal diagnosis and treatment planning.
